have<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Helps create a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere, especially on arrival<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Promotes socialisation, engagement, group cohesion and sense of belonging, especially if culturally familiar<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Can help structure day\/sessions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Can help orient attendees if routine<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Can act as a \u2018holding exercise\u2019 while people arrive\/other activities are set up<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Can help attendees (including carers) feel \u2018looked after\u2019<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Staff\/volunteer fulfilment at meeting needs and \u2018looking class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Potential health consequences if drinks contain sugar and\/or there are accompanying snacks (disrupted meal routines, blood sugar levels, weight gain class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Starting a session with refreshments\/snacks is key to setting a welcoming and relaxed tone and facilitates socialising \u2013 a feature across cultures (with some adaptations)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Refreshment breaks can help structure and pace sessions and can be valuable in helping to orient people, if part of routine<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Refreshment breaks are an opportunity for essential hydration<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Refreshment breaks can be an opportunity to check in with attendees (including carers), and to help them feel \u2018looked after\u2019<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Refreshments and snacks can be ab opportunity to make people feel at home (if offered refreshments they are used to), and to acknowledge and celebrate culture (e.g. special occasions in the calendar)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Responsibility for helping with refreshments can give volunteers purpose (and attendees, if able \u2013 see \u2018<a facilities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Having a choice of refreshments available (including culturally appropriate variations)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Seasonal and celebratory adaptations (e.g. cold drinks in summer, thematically appropriate refreshments and snacks for special events in the calendar)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A comfortable space to consume refreshments together<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What challenges might we need to think about?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Attendees not drinking of their own
